POEM

excerpts from "Warning"

by Jenny Joseph

When I am an old woman

I shall wear purple

With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me...

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?

1-11-09

Mom and I stopped by Cruise Inn today to try their food, but she was instantly uncomfortable with all the men looking us over, then the deal-breaker came when the waitress approached us with menus. We told her we may not stay, so she walked off without letting us see the menus! Appears they don't want "our kind" there, so we're not meeting at the Cruise anytime in the near future.

12-17-08

Because of the icy road conditions in much of our area, only three made it to lunch at Puerto Vallarta: Queen Jean,  Nancy, and Judy. Sorry I missed you ladies, we don't see you often enough!

11-19-08

Tsarina Ruthanne, Queen Jean, and I (Empress Julie) had a delicious lunch at Mr. P's Restaurant, in Oceanlake. However, it was almost 45 min. from the time we placed our order to the time it was delivered, so we're not going back.

Queen Jean would like us to find a place to meet at regularly. While it is fun to go to different places, it may help our attendance if we had the same eatery all the time. Our initial thought was Kyllo's; they have consistently good food, their lunch prices are reasonable, and of course, they have an ocean view! But they don't have a breakfast menu, and we'd like to have that option (esp. since 11:30 is "early morning" to me!) Since come January there will be no more smoking in bars, we decided to try out a few of them. The Pines and Cruise Inn are said to have good food, so we'll give them a shot. If anyone has any issue with going to a bar, please let me know. We don't want anyone to be uncomfortable.

10-22-08

Somehow the 3rd Wed. slipped our mind, so we met on the following Wed. instead. Mulligan's was much better this time.

6-18-08

We had Mulligan's mostly to ourselves (bigger table next time, ladies, please!) Pretty good food, though the barbeque sauce was debated (it's more spicy than tangy). Relay for Life will be in August; we failed to sign up at the Kickoff, so we'll have to decide if we want to participate again this year. I believe the registration fee is $100. Since we won't be meeting again till after the event, we'll correspond.

5-21-08

Nice lunch at Gallucci's Pizzeria. We were hoping to meet a new member, but perhaps she'll join us next time.

4-16-08

We redirected ourselves to Roadhouse 101, because Capt. Ron's is closed on Wednesdays. Good food, but dang, that salsa is killer later! I'm going to avoid it from now on ....

3-20-08

We ate at Roadhouse 101, where we decided to return to our Wednesday schedule. So, from now on (until things change again!) we'll meet on the third Wednesday of each month. Next time we'll try Capt. Ron's again. Some of us haven't been impressed by them, but we decided to give them one more try. Guess we must be hungry for seafood!

1-17-08

Five of us met at Mazatlan and exchanged some unexpected gifts! Our chapter's name is now Diverse Divas of the Mystic (formerly Misty) Empire.

1-12-08

My apologies, I have not been keeping this page up-to-date! We are now meeting on the THIRD THURSDAY of each month, at 11:30am.

1-8-08

Thanks to Ruthanne, we are now an official chapter of the Red Hat Society again! If you'd like to help with the cost of our registration, please see Ruthanne.

12-20-07

At Wildflower Grill, we got to meet the newest member of Ruthanne's family, Freckles!

Ruthanne and Freckles

4-12-07

We met at 60's Cafe, but this time on Thursday. Our regular meetings are now on the 2nd Thursday of every month.

3-14-07

Our next attempt at meeting at 60's Cafe. Much better experience this time (they were actually open!) The only problem was sitting too close to the kitchen and cash register - a little too noisy for us to visit with each other.

2-14-07

We FINALLY visited La Tea Da in Tillamook. Had a wonderful time, treated like the queens we are! Now plans are in the works to visit the tea house in either Depoe Bay or Newport. Check back later for photos.

2-14-07

Very nice lunch at Kyllo's (despite the cool welcome), with a special treat - two husbands joined us for Valentine's Day!

1-10-07

Alright, well maybe I was wrong about the Kyllo's table. I was told at this lunch that it was there before. Okay, I'll admit to being easily confused! I still think it's different though....

Five of us lunched, with two new joining Mom, Ruthanne and me: welcome Dee and Jan!

12-20-06

Four of us had a nice lunch at Kyllo's: Ruthanne, Nancy, Queen Jean, and me. Kyllo's just finished remodeling, and we sat at a table in front (or in back) of the gas fireplace. Last year (see pic below), we sat in the same general area, but the fireplace was blocked by partitions. Now we get to enjoy the heat - good idea!

10-8-06

As of this month, we are no longer a "Red Hat" group. I thought about going it unofficially, but I thought of all the hats I have that I'm not "allowed" to wear under RHS (wearing red/purple pink/lavender is the only real rule they have) including a red one! I know others in our group (or who would like to be in it) feel fettered with the restriction too. So while some of our members may stick with the RHS colors, we can now wear any. All I ask is that you do wear a hat, plain or elaborate, big or small...it doesn't matter. If you don't have one to wear to a meeting, well, okay, but please try. Thank you!

BTW, we are still the Diverse Divas of the Misty Empire ... and I still get to be Empress! :-)

BTW: If you haven't chosen a title yet, feel free to do so (if you want to). Queen, Countess, Lady, Princess, Duchess, even Sultana or Pharaoh; whatever suits your fancy!

05-19-06

I just got a job, so instead of the 2nd Tuesday we'll now meet on the second Wednesday of each month - still at 11am (to beat the lunch rush). Change is good!

05-09-06

We finally got to go to Pig 'n' Pancake! It was very nice, and they treated us right. Nice pecan pie too!

04-11-06

Five of us lunched at McMenamin's Brew Pub in Lighthouse Square. We again discussed going to La Tea Da in Tillamook, but nothing was set up.

03-14-06

Sip 'n' Sand hosted four of us.

02-14-06

St. V's Day actually got in our way today, so just three of us met, for a non-red hat event. Gotta be flexible!

01-08-06

Happy New Year!

You can see my mini newsletter at:

http://oregoncoastbiz.net/emd/200512/newyear2006jks-web.jpg (make sure to view it at full-size).

We had a delightful little lunch at Mr. P's restaurant.

12-13-05

This month we met at 11:30, because Kyllo's doesn't open till then. Click here to see pic!

08-31-05

Wow, I am so far behind! I didn't even make it to this month's meeting. I've been having my driveway done in asphalt, and having my shed (now called "Funhouse") remodeled. It's all been very distracting, but now it's beautiful!

08-09-05

The Divas (sans me) met at Aces Bar & Grill, formerly Lakeside Bar and Grill.

06-09-05

Five of us got together at my office and got creative! We embellished hats, worked on scrapbooks, and just visited.

05-10-05

Four of us had a nice visit (despite my accidental initiation of our newest member!) at Sambo's. It was suggested that we have our next meeting at Wildflower Grill, so that's where we'll go next month.

I decided that we should plan a get-together other than monthly meetings. Our first opportunity will be to share what we have and make some hats, pins, or whatever we come up with.

04-12-05

Five at Sambo's again, where we welcomed a new member!

03-08-05

Five of us met again at Sambo's, the one place we can be pretty sure everyone can find. Good thing too, because except for me, all attendees are new transplants to Lincoln City!

02-16-05

We had four members show up on Feb. 10th. We decided to meet on the first TUESDAY of each month, at 11am, at Sambo's...at least for the moment!

02-07-05

Starting this Thursday, Feb. 10th, we will have a regular meeting at noon, at Sambo's Restaurant in Lincoln City, the second Thursday of each month.

10-14-04

Now accepting new members! Be sure that you don't have any problem with diverse lifestyles or personalities, 'cuz we have 'em! The only things that we will all have in common is the desire to develop friendships with other women and to get out-and-about! MAYBE even gadabout, who's to tell...and who's to tell us we can't?!
