OCBN Turns Four

Today (April 27th) is the fourth anniversary of the Oregon Coast Business Network! You may ask, if the OCBN is four years old, why are we just now sending out its first newsletter?
The short answer is that the focus and business model of the site has undergone many reviews. While its purpose has always been to promote Oregon coast businesses, the way of going about that has changed. For the continuing story on its evolution, follow the link.

Keeping Up Is Tough

Businesses, not unlike the ocean, are constantly changing

Countless hours have been spent compiling our directories. And when we verify a web site for one of them, we make a link to it. But now and then pages or entire sites go down. If you find a "bad" link, please let us know.
Even more importantly, we don't have all links made yet. If there isn't one to your business, please let us know and we'll get it added right away!

Featured Web Site

Pizza a Fetta in Cannon Beach

While the OCBN exists to promote its members, we often come across web sites that are just too impressive to pass by. Although there would be a couple things I would change, this is a handsome site.
If you'd like to suggest a stand-out site, please let us know. We may feature it in our next issue!

Tip(s) of the Month

Life is in the details - make your page come alive!

We all know that how a web site looks is not necessarily a reflection of the performance of a business. But it's often our initial impression that counts, so online appearance is vital to all businesses. At first, this site looks okay, but when printed out, the elements are dis-integrated, and lose their format. While the site is adequate for their needs -- sharing info about their business and how to contact them -- a redo would be beneficial. Upgrading their software or hiring a designer to update their page would give them a more professional appearance.

While proper grammar and spelling don't make much of an impression, errors in those areas will make a negative impression. Be sure to check your language!

Look at the very top of your screen - this is the title of the page. In our example, they have neglected to customize this detail on each of their pages.

Find Me in Your Community!

Win a page for a year!
I am often traveling up and down the coast, introducing myself and the Oregon Coast Business Network to everyone I meet.
Anyone* who remembers me visiting their area will be entered into a drawing for a free "Clam" design membership. All you have to do to enter is email in the place and approximate date of my visit. Your page can be for your business, to make an announcement, a mini-gallery of your art, whatever you want!**

*Sorry, current members are not eligible.
** Within reason and good taste, of course.

OCBN is the most inclusive online directory of Oregon coast businesses.
We promote the Oregon coast exclusively. In other words, we promote the whole Oregon coast, and nothing but the Oregon coast.
If you have any questions or don't wish to click on links from email, please explore our site by typing ocbn.net into your browser.
Thank you for your time in reading our newsletter!

All My Best,
