A Very Personal Note |
|
It's been a LONG time since I've written
anything here. I blog irregularly anyway, but two factors really
kept me from contributing: In May I started working for the
newspaper as their Graphic Artist and Web Editor. Then in July, I
unexpectedly lost one of my daughters. Naturally, my world
"exploded," and I'm still trying to put it back together. But the
fact is, it's an impossible task, because she is gone forever.
Tomorrow it will be six months since she passed over.
I don't always feel like I am (work is a great distraction), but I am still in mourning. Thus, for this year at least, I will not be helping in the Pub Run for Community Days (see below). |

Fix Free Speech II |
|
Lately I've been hearing people on the radio
pronounce the word "extraordinary" as "extra-ordinary" instead of "extrordinary"
(the first a is silent). Now, to my mind, that means the same thing
as "particularly regular," or "especially boring," assumably just
the opposite meaning that they have in mind.
Also, instead of saying for instance, April "4th," I'm hearing more people saying April "4." Are we losing our st, nd, rd, and th's? Why? Nobody told me about it.... And before you say anything, it's NOT a reflection of my age: the folks who've been doing this are older than I am! Admittedly though, I suppose my crankiness may be a reflection of my age...no, on second thought, the errors are just wrong, dag nab it! |

Let's Do a Pub Run, April 19th! |
|
I am again on the Community Days committee,
this time as an assistant instead of the "Pub, Grub, and Poker Run"
chairman. This year that event falls on April 19th (this special
week always starts Easter Saturday, so the dates fluctuate from
year-to-year). You can contact me for details regarding the pub run,
or contact the Lincoln City Chamber of Commerce for info about the
week's other activities. If you participated last year and have
suggestions for improving the experience, let me know.

On a Personal Note |
|
Whew! I've been quite busy lately, not just with this web site (I've been tweaking it again), but in my home life as well: finally got my driveway paved (over 3,000sf worth!), and my shed is being transformed into a garage/workshop/storage "cabin" as I write this! There's still lots of work for ME to do, like reorganizing and catching up with landscaping. But all the labor and expense will be worth it! I did an on-air interview with Roger Robertson at KBCH yesterday morning, which required me to wake up WAAAY earlier than normal! Not really a problem, but the waking up all through the night was (yes, I had multiple alarms set, but my brain still "worries"!) Despite my lack of sleep, I think the interview went quite well; I'm trying to figure out how to upload a sound bite of it here. I'm also running an ad on KBCH and KYTE through Aug. 25th. Hope you catch it! |

Celebrate Lincoln City |
|
This coming week is the week-long celebration
of Lincoln City. It's extra-special this year because we are
celebrating Lincoln City's 40th "birthday"! I am the chairman of the "Pub, Grub, and Poker Run." It's being held on Wednesday, March 30th. We will be providing shuttle service to the participants, and the pubs will offer free appetizers. To participate, buy a button at the Visitors Center, the Chamber of Commerce, The News Guard office, or any of the seven "pubs." Come on down and get on board! Write me if you'd like more information. |

Destruction and Congestion Lead to Beautification |
|
Lincoln City is making major changes in the
Oceanlake District (considered to be LC's downtown area). It's
currently a mess, but all Oceanlake businesses are continuing as
usual. PLUS, when you visit those businesses, you can fill out an
entry form for an Oregon Float® and
enter as often as you like! Contact a merchant or the Chamber of
Commerce to learn more. Taft (south LC) had been renovated, and the next renewal project will be in the Nelscott area. |

Fix Free Speech I |
| The year is now 2005 - and we've been saying, "two thousand five" (or four, etc.) But I'm going to start saying, "twenty oh-five." Same number of syllables, but still seems more efficient. After all, we don't call 1985 "one thousand, nine hundred eighty five," we say "nineteen eighty five." Are you with me on this?! | |

Yes, I'm a Legalist |
|
If I were going to change the world (or at
least Oregon law), I would make it mandatory for extra-large pickup
truck drivers through RV drivers to have a special RV license. After
all, if you drive a semi-truck, a license is required. If you transport people
for a living, you have to have a chauffeur's
license (even if you just use a small car). And finally, if you
operate a motorcycle, you |

Deserved But Unofficial Recognition |
|
I don't know why, but somehow The Dorchester House was not listed among the winners of the 2004 Holiday Lighting Contest, as reported in The News Guard. Perhaps they did not officially enter? At any rate, their maintenance man Julio did a fantastic job in decorating "the old lady." She was breathtaking with lights on all front windows, doors, and landscaping. Way to go, Julio!
